After PoliticsAfter she retired from politics after her third term in Congress, she became a full time professor at the University of Texas. She used a wheelchair to get around because of her multiple sclerosis, but it still never slowed her down. She won many awards including the "Best Living Orator" , the "Medal of Freedom",and was named one of the top 25 most influential living women of all time. In 1992 she gave the key note address once again at the Democratic National Convention, this time for Bill Clinton.Barbara Jordan never married and her private life was just that, very private. On January 17, 1996 Barbara Jordan passed away. She was only 59 years old. President Clinton and former Texas Governor Ann Richards were among the speakers at her funeral. Many people consider her one of the greatest speakers of all time.
