Earth:
(Say it in French! Terre)
HOME! The third planet from the sun and the largest of the inner planets with a diameter of 7,922 miles, it has one natural satellite (the moon) and many man-made ones. Earth is the only planet in the solar system that can sustain water in liquid form and the only known planet can support life. Earth is 93 million miles from the sun.
More Facts About Earth:
Size: 7,922 mi. diameter
Distance from Sun: 93 million mi. from the sun. In other words, the Earth is 132,713,514,000 school buses from the sun! WOW
Terrain/Surface: Earth has a thin outer crust. This is where different forms of life are found. Earth's surface is mostly water with large landforms (the continents)
Climate: The only climate that can sustain water in liquid form. Climate also varies depending on the lattitude from aproximately -75° F to over 120° F
Atmosphere: Only planet that's atmosphere can sustain life (that we know of). The atmosphere is made up mostly of nitrogen and oxygen. The oxygen (which we breathe) makes up only 21% or about 1/4 of the Earth's atmosphere.
How Long is one Rotation of the Planet: 24 hours
How Long is one orbit of the Sun: 365.25 days. That is why we have leap year. Every 4 years they put those quarters of a day together and we get an extra day.
Satellites: 1 natural (the Moon) and many many man-made.
Fun Fact: Most of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere is produced from the trees in the Amazon rain forest.
