Venus:
(Say it in French! Vénus)
The second planet from the sun, and is just a little bit smaller than Earth with a diameter of 7,517 miles. It is very dry and has a thick atmosphere that holds in the heat. The surface temperature is 887° Fahrenheit (Water boils at 212° on Earth at sea level). Venus spins on its axis in the opposite direction from Earth’s rotation. Venus is about 67 million miles from the sun. Venus takes 243 Earth days to make one complete rotation on its axis. Although the days are longer on Venus, the years are shorter because it is closer to the sun. Venus orbits the sun in 225 Earth days.
